yizkor - memorial service

Yizkor - memorial service 12:00

Yizkor, a special memorial prayer for the departed, is recited in the synagogue following the Torah reading, on the second day of Shavuot.

Yizkor, in Hebrew, means "Remember." In this prayer, we implore G‑d to remember the souls of our relatives and friends that have passed on.

When we recite Yizkor, we renew and strengthen the connection between us and our loved one, bringing merit to the departed souls, elevating them in their celestial homes.

Moshiach Seudah - Celebrating the Future

Tuesday, April 30, 7:00pm

At Chabad Torah Center, 393 5th Ave. ground floor

We will eat matzah, drink four cups of wine, discuss words of Torah and inspirational stories, sing Chassidic melodies, and find out why this day has a special energy related to the coming of Moshiach.

The last day of Passover ("Acharon Shel Pesach") is particularly associated with Moshiach and the future redemption. The Haftarah (reading from the Prophets) for this day is from Isaiah 11, which describes the promised future era of universal peace and divine perfection. Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov instituted the custom of partaking in a "Moshiach's meal" on the afternoon of the last day of Passover which this year is Tuesday afternoon, April 30; in addition to the matzah eaten at "Moshiach's meal", the Rebbe's of Chabad added the custom of drinking four cups of wine, as in the seder held on Passover's first days. Wine represents royalty and liberty, while drinking these four cups of wine, we have in mind the liberty we will very soon experience in the ultimate redemption with the coming of Moshiach.

If you can't make it to the Chabad Torah Center, you can have your own Moshiach meal at your synagogue or home on Tuesday afternoon.
